Mistakes that damage your skin and make you age earlier (according to the beautician)

The verdict of the professionals: The battle against aging is won in the daily routine, not only in the clinic.

We all long for radiant, elastic and defying the passage of time. We invest in fashionable creams, serums and treatments, but we often forget that the most common and subtle mistakes in our daily routine, or even in our lifestyle, are the true collagen and elastin saboteurs.
The beauticians, experts who see our skin up close day after day, cannot be pointed out that the secret of a young and healthy face lies in the perseverance and correction of harmful habits. According to their experience, these are the most serious failures that accelerate the aging of your skin, making you look older than you really are.

1. The Invisible Solar Enemy: Do not use Protector daily
This is, without a doubt, the number one mistake. If you could only choose one product, the beauticians and dermatologists agree: it must be a broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA and UVB) with an FPS of at least 30, ideally 50.
Many people think that they should only apply it on the beach or on sunny days. Big mistake! UV rays penetrate the clouds and even the glass of the windows. Photo aging, skin damage caused by sun exposure, is responsible for up to 90% of visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, dark spots and loss of firmness. Ignoring this step is like inviting wrinkles to pass.

The beautician's advice: Apply a generous amount (two fingers of product) every morning as the last step of your routine, and re-apply every two hours if you are outdoors. And don't forget the neck, neckline and hands!

2. forget the double night cleaning
Sleeping with makeup or with the dirt of the day is a beauty crime. During the day, the skin accumulates makeup, traces of sunscreen, sebum and contamination particles. If not properly removed, these impurities clog pores, make cell regeneration difficult that occurs while you sleep and favor toxin accumulation.
The night renewal process is interrupted, making the skin look more dull, with dilated pores and accelerating the appearance of lines of expression.

The beautician's advice: Implement double cleaning. First, use an oil-based cleaner (or oily micellar water) to dissolve makeup and sunscreen. Second, use a water-based cleaner (gel or foam) to cleanse the skin thoroughly.

3. Exfoliate excessively or aggressively
Exfoliation is crucial to kill dead cells, renew the skin and enhance the luminosity. However, many people are tempted to do so daily or use overly abrasive (granular) physical scrubs.
This damages the skin barrier (the protective layer of the skin), causing micro-tearing, irritation, dryness and, paradoxically, greater susceptibility to environmental damage, resulting in premature aging. A damaged barrier cannot retain moisture or protect itself.

On the other hand, chronic stress triggers cortisol levels, a hormone that causes inflammation. Chronic degeneration degrades collagen and accelerates cellular aging.

The beautician's advice: Prioritize water consumption (at least 2 liters a day), foods rich in antioxidants (fruits and vegetables) and essential fatty acids (such as omega-3). In addition, it spends daily time on activities that reduce your stress, since a tense face also favors expression lines. > The key is consciousness The beautician sees the skin as a map that tells the story of our habits. Small fixes like using sunscreen daily, properly cleaned, and managing stress not only prevent aging, but improve the effectiveness of any expensive product you use. Your skin will thank you with light and firmness.

4. Do not hydrate oily skin (the great myth)
There is a false belief that if you have oily skin, you don't need moisturizer. This is completely wrong. Oily skin may be dehydrated (lack of water), even if you have excess sebum (fat).
Dehydrated skin loses elasticity, looks more dull and the lines of expression become more noticeable. Also, if the skin feels lacking in hydration, it can compensate for it by producing even more sebum, aggravating the problem of fat and acne.

The beautician's advice: All skins need wetting. If your skin is oily, choose «oil-free» or «noncomedogenic» formulas with light textures like gels or fluids. Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or niacinamide, which hydrate and regulate fat production.

5. «Jumpy Diet» and chronic stress
Skin care is holistic. What you consume and how you manage your emotional well-being is reflected directly on your face. A diet high in sugars and ultra-processed foods causes glycation, a process where excess sugar adheres to collagen and elastin fibers, making them rigid and brittle, which results in sagging and deep wrinkles.
